Bahia de Caraquez, or just Bahia, sits on the southern mouth of a large bay. What used to be one of Ecuador's largest ports has become more of an eco-town in recent decades as the harbor suffered from heavy erosion, and all of its shipping industry moved south to Guayaquil or Manta. Great news for retirees and ex-pats looking for a quaint, quiet beach town.
Bahia is located right in the middle of Ruta del Sol. The name given to a scenic coastal route runs from Salinas that heading north to Esmeraldas. And the impressive and longest bridge in Ecuador is connecting Bahia to San Vicente has opened up the area.
CoCo Bongo is located in the heart of Bahia, right across from the town's largest most beautiful park(Parque de Madres). You are just minutes away from the white sand beach on the Rio Chone Estuary and the Pacific Ocean. Bring flip flops and a bathing suit. The water is warm year-round, and the weather is incredible.
