Ecuador Airports, What you need to know

Ecuador airports, there are 3 international airports, and Cuenca may be the fourth in the future.

Mariscal Sucre Quito International Airport(UIO)

The biggest airport in Ecuador is of moderate size, making it easy to move around. It was constructed in 2013 and is well-maintained and tidy. The employees are helpful and approachable, and since there is a visible security presence, the airport is a safe place. Nonetheless, if you land on an international flight at midnight, the airport might not be the most comfortable place to spend the night. There is a shopping mall across the entrance that is connected to the airport. If you have a long layover, you can spend approximately $40 at the layover lounge to get comfortable recliners to rest in. Otherwise, you can try to find a spot in the food court. In the early hours, the food court only has one restaurant open, Espanlo, a nice sandwich and coffee place. Moreover, luggage storage facilities are available at the airport to avoid carrying them around.

Popular Airlines and Routes to the United States

Delta – Quito – Atlanta Direct

The best option for a shorter layover and connecting flights.

Spirit and Jet Blue – Quito – Fort Lauderdale

Jet Blue is the best option for the airline. The exit row is worth the upgrade rows 10 and 11; get an aisle seat. Spirit is okay. Upgrade to the Big Blue seats.

American – Quito – Miami

American Airlines is the worst, and Miami Airport is the worst airport to fly into; I’ll have no problem paying more to avoid this airline and airport.

Direct flights:

  • Miami/Fort Lauterdale
  • Atlanta
  • Orlando
  • New York
  • Houston
  • Bogota
  • Medellín
  • Panama City
  • Mexico City
  • Lima
  • Santiago
  • Madried

Guayaquil – José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport(GYE)

Guayaquil Airport, also known as José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport, is the second largest airport in Ecuador after Quito International Airport. The airport is modern and well-equipped with a variety of facilities to cater to the needs of travelers. Just across the street from the airport is the main bus terminal, which provides convenient access to cities all along the coast. The bus terminal is also beautifully designed and maintained, and plenty of places to eat.

Eloy Alfaro International Airport(MEC)

The Manta International Airport in Ecuador is new and small, with only one international destination, Panama City via Copa Airlines. There is also a direct flight to the Galapagos Island.
